Tents ‘n’ Pegs
With the same large footpegs as Johns’ (pictured in the entry of Stainless Goodies), having sat on the shelf for ages I finally had the chance to fit them with the new pannier rack. It also gives me the chance to see how my newly acquired boots will feel stood on those mean looking teeth.
A seemingly minor issue, once they’re fitted, is that the new side stand, does not fold back completely. As it slots into the frame in the opposite direction to the old footpeg, the spring of the sidestand catches on the footpeg bracket, when it is kicked up. This didn’t seem to be to great a problem, when it was sat in the garage, but having taken it out for a run, it has a tendency for gravity to take preference when travelling over a bumpy surface and thus the stand deploys itself. A Most Interesting experience when taking a left hand bend and finding oneself on the wrong side of the road!
Some clever filing or rearranging needed to be done, so John discovered by grinding down the back of the bracket, enough clearance can be made to provide room for the stand.

Meanwhile, I finally chose a tent which has arrived . Following Johns comments on the snugness of his Vaude, I plumped for a Vango Storm 300. It’s a kilo heavier than Johns, but packs up small and seems to have a tad more room inside. This could mean I end up having to accommodate more equipment when we camp, but much more preferable than sharing with John after a campfire meal of beans !

Sleepwise – the Khyam VSS sleeping bags have arrived. Seem Very cosy but yet to be tested!
