Aksu to Kashgar
Day 40 – 473kms. (12,088 kms total)
The journey from Aksu to Kashgar is no cooler, and we ride with sandstone mountains to our right, layered in multiple colours and the Taklamakan Desert to the south, varying from white to pink to green to red sand.
The Taklamakan Desert is the second largest in the world.
Kashgar, also known as Kashi, lies to the south west of the Taklamakan Desert

Our arrival in Kashgar is mid afternoon, its very hot, very busy, and the first three hotels we try are full. Frustrated, we pick a small one in a side street which though initially is full, then has a single room, which transpires to be a twin room. They want us to park the bikes in the foyer, but after breaking their plank (being used as a ramp) we leave them on the pavement outside. John broke a lamp set in the pavement when he rode over it… oops.
This hotel also has the famous “No Porking” sign out front.

We now have the task of dealing with the agent to see how we can clear customs without him trying to extort more money from us.
We may be away from internet for some days now, but should still be able to update our location map via POI66.
