Font End is Sorted

The front of the bike is now sorted, or at least sorted as much as its going to be….

Starting at the top, I have fitted handlebar risers – 25mm. These are as much to make the bars clear the Heat-Troller switches I fitted, as raising the bars for comfort and riding on the pegs!

I fitted new steering head bearings. The steering was a bit vauge and very prone to the wobbles on decelaration so that should all be sorted out now.

Fork legs have had progressive springs from Wilbers fitted, along with changing the oil in the forks to a 15w and new oil seals.
I will have to see what this feels like when the bike is loaded with the equivalent weight for the trip. Might be a bit hard, but its simple to change it.

The forks have been treated to a new cast alloy brace.
Fork Brace The old BMW one looks like it was an afterthought and is just a bit of bent tin to hold the legs apart if you took the front wheel out.
Unit was supplied by San Jose BMW in the States but I have no idea who actually makes them.
New fork gaiters and clips. One of the old ones had stretched because of oil contamination from a leaky seal.
This is where it pays to have friends in Germany to buy bits for me and post them. Many thanks Simon… and I may require other stuff:-))

HE Disc/Caliper
Front disc and caliper, as stated on a previous entry.

Headlamp guard has been replaced with a home made one.
Just a bit of mesh, trimmed to size and a length of plastic pipe wraped round it and all held together with polymer glue… It ain’t pretty but it works.
Standard BMW hand protectors have been ditched in favour of some Acerbis Rallye Pro hand protectors. Red of course.
Cockpit Along with red foam grips.

The next instalment is here
