Wet Wet Wet

Following the fiasco of the dead Starter Motor, I spend the following day riding the Kwak through torrential rain up to Motor Works near Huddersfield, who provided me a replacement. 6 hours of riding in miserable weather was no fun, but gave me something to look forward to when we get to warmer climes.
New starter motor fitted and working, I once more loaded up “The Camel” and prepared for another attempt.
Many many thanks to Gordon, Dick & Alan for all their help in sorting it out.

Tuesday morning I ploughed through the rain to Folkestone and caught my train to France. Now I felt it was real, on the road, for four months – suddenly it seemed a little daunting. France provided better weather (giving me a few hours without waterproofs) and I made it to Leuven just in time to avoid the next rain. Thanks to Benny & Heleen for great hospitality * dinner (...and we’ll be round to watch the video of our exploits on the enormous TV screen they now have).

Wednesday’s weather proved to be no better and deteriorated by adding a heavy Westerly wind, even forcing me to ride The Camel on a tilt. Leaving Leuven at 8am, I headed South to Charleroi, where I found a café for a late breakfast. From there south to Reims, Troyes and South west to Auxerre, Bourges, Chateauroux, before hitting motorway to Limoges. I landed at Abjat at 21.00 – a 13hour ride of which I hope we don’t see too many more. Even The Camel gets uncomfy after a while – might have to dig out the Anti-Monkey –Butt powder !

The next instalment is here

Shouldn’t you have turned left when you reached France? Have a great time. I envy you the trip. Keep safe.
