Ukraine to Crimea
Day 12 – 444 kms. (4195 total)
We left Odessa in the morning at 8.30 via Nikolayev on an extremely busy road.
From there we dropped down to the Crimea, on very long and very straight and very boring roads, where we had anticipated a few days of coastal roaming, but due to delays in Passau, we cut straight across the middle to try and make up some time. Lots of poplar lined roads and many poppy filled wheat fields.
We hooked up with a German biker called Eddie who led us to a hotel in Dzankoj, but when they decided the price was per person instead of per room, we left, went down the road a few kilometres and camped on land between the canal and the road.
Eddie shot off and came back with beer! So, this meant we had to light a small camp fire drink beer and get slightly pissed. Great evening.
Only got half eaten by mosquitoes as we had slapped on some DEET.
Eddie it transpired, was of Kazakhstan birth and gave us some possible places to stay in Almaty. He was on a two week ancestor hunt as they were all split up during the second world war.
We are still 3 days behind schedule.
