Just like Charley and Ewen, The KTM's gone and the BMW's arrived!
The KTM is now on its way to a new owner and the “new” bike has been acquired.

It’s a BMW R100 GS Paris-Dakar with a vintage of 1994.
It only has 28000 kilometres on the clock and now that it’s been cleaned a bit, it looks good. I found it on the German web site mobile.de
If you want one of these older GS’s, Germany has the biggest choice and at the best prices.
I bought mine in Moenchengladbach in Germany and collected it on a trailer.
The bike also came with the
Bernd Tesch panniers, which is handy because these are the very boxes I had decided to get for the trip.

This picture showing how wide the whole rig is
Built to last and with a carrier frame that makes the others look weedy.
They also double as crash bars and I have no doubt that they WILL be put to the test!

Does my arse look big in these? – Oh yes
Hi John. The R100GS looks like the right tool for the job, and unlike the electronic laiden OilHeads (ABS etc), will prove more reliable, I’m sure. I’ll watch with interest, (and a certain amount of envy). John
John Coster | 29 May 06 | #John, Like the Sat-Nav! Are you sure you have the maps for India! You and Mick are really gonna look the part, just wish I could get the 4 month’s off to come along!
Bet you are gonna miss the KTM though! Nice bit of Dirt Track in Iran on the way back and you would be having a right laugh!
Note on the Panniers – Ask Mick about this one, the Givi one’s nearly killed me in France when we were on our way to CZ for the GP, Don’t go over a Ton!
Gary Jones | 14 June 06 | #John,
Still think you are somewhat crazy! Get lots of travel insurance so someone like me will come and pick you up when some idiot in Russia, China or India hits you on the bike!
Do have to agree that an old R100 would be more reliable on a journey like this. Love my old R1100RS but it can be a computer nightmare at times. Thats why I sold it three years ago and got a 1972 R75/5! Back to basics!
Take lots of good photos when you can!
