French Registration!

Well, getting the bike registered, here in France is not as easy or cheap as some other EU States.

A list of paperwork is obtained from the local “prefecture” and then you hot-foot it to the tax office to get a “no VAT”, tax liability certificate… but only if you have a utility bill with you. Sorted on the second visit.

A Certificate of Conformity is required, but should not be as the bike is over 10 years old. Not to worry… play the game.
Well! The thieving gits at BMW France want €150.00 for a copy of the C of C!
In the UK, Germany, Holland etc., they dish them out for free.

The problem is that, some eagle eyed civil servant may spot that its over 10 years old and send me to DRIRE (MOT), for a Single Vehicle Type Approval that will cost me another couple of hundred Euro’s.

Just waiting for the C of C as they want the money up-front. People wouldn’t refuse to pay it if they got it, would they?

All registered now.
The hard part was BMW. They sent a form with boxes that had ticks in them. These were the bits to fill in with the bikes details.
Strange thin is, ons sheet had no ticks on it but, hey-ho, what do I know.
Sure enough it came back with new ticks in it. Returned it the same day and the waited for just over 2 weeks for the C of C to be sent.

The authority’s did their bit in 4 days.

The next instalment is here
